February 21, 2025 - The board of Trustees is seeking an individual to serve on the Frankfort Firefighters’ Pension Board.

PURPOSE

Pursuant to Article 4 of the Illinois Pension Code, the District is required to establish and administer a firefighters' pension fund for the benefit of the District's firefighters and of the firefighters' surviving spouses, children and certain other dependents. The Firefighters' Pension Board is a five member board that is created by Section 4-121 of the Pension Code and is charged by law with controlling and managing the Firefighters' Pension Fund. The Firefighters' Pension Fund derives its funds primarily from property taxes and firefighter contributions.

Schedule


The board meets on a quarterly basis through regularly scheduled meetings, ensuring consistent oversight and strategic guidance. In addition, special meetings are convened as needed to address urgent matters or emerging issues, allowing the board to conduct timely business and maintain operational effectiveness.

Requirements

All new board members are required to complete 16 hours of free training during their first year of service. This initial training ensures that every board member is well-prepared for their responsibilities and understands the fundamentals of board governance and organizational oversight. After the first year, board members must complete an additional eight hours of continuing education annually, keeping them informed of best practices and any updates in policies or regulatory requirements.
