Cadet Program
The Frankfort Fire Cadet Program was established in 1984, and has been an active part of the department ever since. The program is intended to introduce young men and women between the ages of 15 and 21 to the Fire and EMS service. The cadets operate under the supervision of few highly dedicated Firefighters, who organize the program. The cadets currently meet on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9pm. The weekly meetings allow the cadets to gain experience by using the tools, riding on apparatus, and learning from District staff. The cadet Program has been the starting point for dozens of firefighters over the years. In fact the previous Fire Chief Bob Wilson began his career as a cadet.
In addition to weekly meetings and occasional details to assist at public education events, the cadets participate at training sessions at the Illinois Fire Service Institute in Champaign. A dedication to the cadet program can result in a cadet receiving assistance pursuing their EMT license, Paramedic license, and Basic Firefighter certificate. The goal of the program is to help prepare the next generation of firefighters and paramedics.
