FFPD Station 3

Training Academy

Special Training Equipment

A special simulator has been built at Station #3. It's an SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) simulator. The simulator is a course for firefighters to work through that tests their ability to maneuver through tight places while wearing their SCBA (air pack). The maze can be used to test firefighter skills, as well as a tool to build confidence in new firefighters. One of the best features of the SCBA maze is that all of the panels are movable, which means that the course can be modified many different ways.

In 1994, a joint purchase was made by the Frankfort, Mokena, and New Lenox Fire Protection Districts. A Safety House was purchased to enhance the delivery of public education programs at all three fire districts. The Safety House allows firefighters to teach safety in the home, what to do when smoke detectors are activated, how to crawl low in smoke (non-toxic smoke is used). Also, children learn how to exit the home in a fire emergency. The Safety House also has a camera mounted inside so that people can watch a television monitor outside to observe the children inside.
